Uploading Files from Agents
This topic describes uploading files from agents.

After files are uploaded to the Carbon Black App Control Server, console users with the appropriate permissions can download selected files to their local computer for further examination.

  Carbon Black App Control provides content-based inspection by using YARA rules, which enables more granular control of the security policy in your environment. YARA rules are descriptions of malware samples that can help you detect and classify malware in files. In a rule, the criteria for the rule is defined and tags are specified. When the rule is enabled, tags are assigned to files that meet the criteria for the rule.

  Expert rules are Custom, Memory, and Registry rules created with a special interface that provides many more options than the standard interface for these rules. They are intended for expert users working with Carbon Black Support or Technical Services.

  This chapter describes Rapid Configs, which are sets of rules that can be used to accomplish tasks such as application optimization, operating system and application hardening, and approval of files delivered by software distribution systems.

  The Carbon Black App Control API is intended for programmers who want to write code to interact with Carbon Black App Control, either using custom scripts or from other applications. It is a RESTful API that can be consumed over HTTPS protocol using any language that can create get URI requests and post/put JSON requests as well as interpret JSON responses.

  This section provides instructions for configuring and using the Connector, which integrates the Carbon Black App Control Server with one or more network security devices or services.
- DASCLI
  The DasCLI.exe program, referred to as DASCLI, is an executable which provides Command Line Interface (CLI) access to the Carbon Black App Control Windows Agent. Messages are transmitted between DASCLI and the Agent.

  The Carbon Black App Control Console includes a page that displays certain diagnostic files for the Carbon Black App Control Server and its agents. These files can be useful when you are investigating issues in your Carbon Black App Control environment with the assistance of Carbon Black Support.

  - Scheduling Uploads
    Several locations in the Carbon Black App Control Console provide access to commands for manually uploading files.
  - View the Uploads Table
    Each requested upload appears on the Uploaded Files page, even when it fails. From this page, you can view information about the uploaded file, delete the upload from the list, retry the upload, cancel uploads in progress, and view the uploaded file.
  - Requested Files Page Uploaded Diagnostic Files
    The Requested Files page also has an Diagnostic Files tab that shows diagnostic files uploaded from agent-managed endpoints to the Carbon Black App Control Server. There are two types of diagnostic files uploadable to the server: Server Diagnostic files and Agent Diagnostic Files.
  - Download Uploaded Files
    After files are uploaded to the Carbon Black App Control Server, console users with the appropriate permissions can download selected files to their local computer for further examination.
    - File and Path Information for Uploaded Files
  - Delete Uploaded Files
    You can delete individual uploaded files from the server by checking the row for each file you want to delete on the Uploaded Files page and clicking Delete Uploads on the Action menu.

    The default location of zipped, uploaded files is in the Parity Server\Files folder of the Carbon Black App Control installation directory.
- Exporting Data for External Analysis
  This section provides instructions for configuring and using Carbon Black App Control External Analytics, which enables the Carbon Black App Control Server to export data it collects from endpoints to external analysis tools.

Download Uploaded Files

After files are uploaded to the Carbon Black App Control Server, console users with the appropriate permissions can download selected files to their local computer for further examination.

Caution: This feature in particular should be used with extreme care, in full compliance with your organization's policy on accessing other users’ files. Be sure that only those Carbon Black App Control Console users that absolutely need access to the feature are given permission to use it. The ability to download files has its own setting (“Access uploaded files”) in the console user permisisons settings.

In the Uploaded Files table, click the download button in the row for the file you want to download.
Follow the prompts for your browser to choose to download the file.

This action copies a zip file to the download location on the computer on which the console is being viewed. The zip file includes the uploaded file and the folder path from the agent computer. You can navigate down through the folders to the file.
